Kubilius ahead of EDW: defence industry needs to reorient from ‘haute couture’ to ‘good enough’ production

European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius will speak at Estonian Defence Week 2026 this September in Tallinn, where European defence leaders, policymakers, military officials and industry representatives will gather to discuss Europe’s defence readiness, industrial scaling and security challenges.

“We currently face massive challenges to Europe’s security – Russia’s continued war of aggression against Ukraine, the Iran war threatens the Southern and Mediterranean countries. At the same time our transatlantic allies are asking us to take more responsibility for Europe’s defence,” said Kubilius ahead of the event.

Diehl Defence to showcase counter-drone solutions at EDW

One of Europe’s leading defence technology companies, Diehl Defence will join Estonian Defence Week 2026 as an exhibitor. At EDW, the company will showcase advanced counter-UAS technologies, including the GARMR System, the Sky Sphere System and the modular GUARDION C-UAS system.

Diehl Defence is a leading system house for state-of-the-art air defence systems as well as high-tech guided missiles, innovative ammunition solutions (including guided ammunition), and special reconnaissance and protection systems such as C-UAS systems.

Threod Systems partners with Estonian Defence Week as a sponsor

Threod Systems, Estonia’s leading defence technology company, will showcase its latest developments in the EDW 2026 programme.

Already this summer, Threod Systems will launch a new unmanned system that makes precision-strike laser targeting from lightweight platforms possible. Until now, this capability has largely been the domain of large platforms only. This makes the solution significantly more accessible and more widely usable also for smaller units. The cost of the complete system may be several times lower compared to the larger systems used until now.

More Than Half of EDW 2026 Exhibition Space Already Sold

More than half of the exhibition space for Estonian Defence Week 2026 (EDW) has already been sold, signalling strong early demand for one of the region’s largest defence industry gatherings.

This year’s edition will once again feature major international players such as Saab and Airbus, alongside a strong presence of Estonian defence innovators. Milrem Robotics, the world’s leading robotics and autonomous systems developer, joins as a sponsor, while Frankenburg Technologies will participate as an exhibitor.
